**The update check works.** Settings → Updates shows whether a newer version exists (and checks at launch and every few hours). It only points you to the download page; it never installs anything and cannot be turned off. It reads a small signed file from msinsights.com, so it tells the app nothing about you beyond the request itself.

**Old versions retire.** An app that is never updated eventually becomes a security risk, so each version now stops working as a connector after 12 months, with a warning from month 9 (the date is in Settings → Updates). We can also retire a version sooner if a critical fix makes it unsafe. A retired copy has the AI tool connector and device sync turned off (agents are told why and what to do); the app itself, your vault, search and backup keep working, and your data is never touched. Installing the latest version brings everything back. Notices are cryptographically signed, so nothing but us can retire a copy.

**Everything in 1.7.0 is included:** the browser and file-access security fixes, the Allow network access setting, agents being told why they cannot connect, and the Windows installer that installs the Visual C++ runtime.

**Known limits.** Windows and macOS installers are not code-signed or notarized: expect a SmartScreen warning on Windows, and on macOS run `xattr -cr "/Applications/Sovereign Drive.app"` if it says the app is damaged. Versions 1.7.0 and earlier cannot see updates; download this one by hand. Only the first watched folder syncs between devices. Agent names are still self-declared unless you give an agent a token.
